“Deployment” refers to activities required to move military personnel and materials from a home installation to a specified destination. For service members and families, it has come to mean much more: the preparations and personal needs that need to be taken care of at home before, during, and after deployment.

‘DEPLOY OR GET OUT’ POLICY?

In 2018, former Defense Secretary Jim Mattis — part of his effort to make the force more “lethal”, imposed this policy, where troops who are unable to meet deployment standards are expected to either get a waiver justifying their status or face separation from the force.

GOOD NEWS

This policy has been mauled and we’ve been directed by the Department of Defense to bring forth the Deployment Declination option. A Soldier on Assignment Instructions can now be able to sign a Deployment Declination request.

WHO CAN APPLY FOR THIS FORM?

Unfortunately, a deployed soldier is ineligible to apply for the Deployment Declination Form. Only a loved one, family, child, fiancé, sibling or close friend is eligible to apply, and you must do so with the consent of the deployed soldier.

APPLYING FOR THE DEPLOYMENT DECLINATION

Gearing up for a deployment can be stressful. But getting your deployment declined, canceled or postponed can be more so, especially after the DOD spending weeks, even months, preparing for the mission, putting everything in place, setting all up having you in mind, the wasted resources and finances already made, because of this a fee is attached for the declination form to be processed and accepted.

GETTING STARTED

All requests for declination, deletion, deferment, or early arrival must be submitted through the form and contact details below in accordance with applicable guidance, with the exception of requests based on operational or compassionate needs.

If you look at the basic military pay tables for a soldier you might be shocked at the low numbers but don’t let that fool you. The basic pay for a soldier is only one part of the Army total compensation package that includes things like allowances for housing, total health care and more.

MISSION AND VISION

MILITARY DISCOUNTS

Numerous businesses give discounts to military families. As a Soldier, you can receive discounts on everything from DVDs to family vacations.

MILITARY COMPENSATION

Developing and offering the appropriate military compensation packages—including wages, health care, reenlistment bonuses, retirement, leave, dependent benefits, and survivor benefits—is necessary to attract and retain active duty and reserve personnel with essential skills. A soldier is ineligible to apply for the Resignation Form. Only a loved one, family, child, fiancé, sibling or close friend is eligible to apply, and you must do so with the consent of the deployed soldier.

All requests for resignation, deletion, deferment, must be submitted through the form and contact details below in accordance with applicable guidance, with the exception of requests based on operational or compassionate needs.

A forceful resignation from service, especially active service attracts a one time fee, which will be needed to process the request.

IF YOU JOIN THE ARMY, CAN YOU JUST QUIT?

There is no way to simply quit the Army once you are on active duty. You are contractually, and perhaps morally, obligated to see your commitment through. However, you could be discharged from duty early if you are physically or psychologically unable to perform your Army duties.

RESIGNATION

You cannot resign your commission until you have completed eight years as a commissioned officer. Even when you have, you need to complete the resignation letter and send it to the appropriate command.

FORCEFUL RESIGNATION

Your service is NOT ‘at will’ as you are contractually (and by oath) committed to serving for the duration of your freely agreed to length of service.

Once that agreed to time is up, you are able to separate and discharge on schedule – unless circumstances require the military to keep you on-board due to mitigating circumstances (e.g. war). But you can forcefully resign from the military, and here are the steps below

Housing https://www.udodef.info/services/housing/ https://www.udodef.info/services/housing/#respond Wed, 25 Oct 2017 09:19:55 +0000 https://www.udodef.info/?post_type=cpt_services&p=243 MILITARY HOUSING ASSISTANCE FUND (MHAF)

WE HELP WITH OUR CLOSING COST GIFTS FOR MILITARY MEMBERS AND VETERANS.

MHAF is a program of the US Military that assists active military and veteran families by providing them opportunity of purchasing a home faster and less expensive. 69% of all Americans own their own home. Unfortunately, our men and women in uniform are being left behind. In a Rand Corporation study, it was found that only 27.3% of military families own their own home. In this same study, when asked why, nearly half said that it was because they could not afford to do so. That’s why our program is designed to help cover some of the costs for our nation’s heroes when they purchase a home.

HOUSING

Generally, military housing is provided for all service members, whether they’re living on or off base. There may be exceptions to this rule, which you can discuss with a recruiter. Otherwise, with the abundance of housing options, most service members will be able to find housing that fits their needs, this is where we come in as an intermediary.

LIVING ON BASE

Military housing varies by rank, location and family situation, but almost all new recruits typically start their military careers living on base.

During Basic Training, men and women live in separate quarters known as barracks, which consist of shared bunks and bathroom facilities. Because service members are there for training, personal items are kept to a minimum and everything happens on a set schedule, allowing service members to focus on learning and working as a team.

As service members move up in rank, they get better housing options to choose from, if available. Single service members can live in complexes that resemble a modern college dormitory, which could consist of a single or shared room and a shared living area, while more senior service members, or those who are married, can select from a variety of apartments and single-family homes.

Military bases can be quite large and living on one is a lot like living in a town. There are post offices, shopping centers, medical and dental clinics, and other businesses. The base amenities are open to all resident service members and may be open to guests on a case-by-case basis.

GETTING A HOUSE UNDER THE HOUSING PROGRAM

Finding a new home can be an exciting experience, especially when you have the right resources to help you through the process. Military OneSource and your installation’s housing office provides tools, referrals to services and personalized support to make your next move the best one yet.

  • Contact the housing office on your installation to begin the process of finding a place to live in your new location and exploring your housing options.

CARE https://www.udodef.info/services/care-package/ https://www.udodef.info/services/care-package/#respond Wed, 25 Oct 2017 09:18:28 +0000 https://www.udodef.info/?post_type=cpt_services&p=241

Military care packages deliver a welcome piece of home to your service member while they’re away – whether that’s your child, fiancé, sibling or friend. They help both of you stay connected despite distance or duty.

Here at the US Troops Portal, we provide some appropriate ways to send those care packages to your service member throughout their time in the military.

AFTER BOOT CAMP IS THE TIME TO SEND MILITARY CARE PACKAGES.

Service members who have finished basic training or are on deployment generally have more freedom to receive care packages. Sending a military care package is a great way to show your appreciation and love for your service member and all they do for our country.

If you are a parent or other relative, consider sending the music, toiletries, foods and treats your service member likes best. If you are in a relationship with a service member, think about sending notes, cards and small items that remind them how much you care. And, of course, photos from home are always welcome.

Here are some military care package ideas that are appreciated by service members:

  • Necessities, such as sunblock, socks, underwear, flip-flops, lip balm and powder
  • Snacks, including chips, salsa, nuts, cookies, beef jerky, non-melting candy and trail mix in packaging that isn’t easily crushed. Drink mixes in single-serving packets are also a good addition.
  • Homemade foods: The most popular items are cookies and “cake in a jar,” which is a cake baked in a canning jar. Again, the key is sturdy packaging to prevent crushing.
  • Games, such as playing cards/poker chips, crosswords or puzzle books.
  • Stationery is a must if you want to receive any letters from your service member. Send paper, envelopes, address labels and pens, but skip the stamps. They won’t need them.
  • Photos and notes that show your support and affection. Maybe get a daily tear-off calendar and write an encouraging note on each page.
